Projects : Seminar : New insights in didactics and testing
Recent developments in the theory and practice of foreign-language-learning is a global description of the courses contents. Emphasis is on translating new insights from theory to the practice of teaching Dutch as a foreign language.
Three innovating terms form the core of the course:
- Functional language education,
- Competence based learning,
- Learner autonomy.
With these three terms as a starting point, all phases of language education will be examined. First it will be discussed how these starting points can be applied when formulating goals and assembling a curriculum. The European Framework of Reference might also come up in this context. Secondly we will look at which learning materials are compatible with the new insights, and selection criteria will be derived from them. There will also be attention for new media, and what role they can play when implementing the above mentioned insights. Finally it will be explored how the new insights translate into language evaluation. Different forms of language evaluation will be designated:
- Testing,
- Assessment,
- Process aimed evaluation,
- Self-evaluation, co-evaluation.
The course will anticipate the wishes of the participants where possible.
This course is organized on behalf of the Nederlandse Taalunie by the Centre for Language and Migration in Leuven, and the program was developed in conjunction with the 'Steunpunt NVT'. In order to do this the 'Steunpunt' worked together with teachers from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Flanders and Wallonia.
